I believe we all naturally strive to achieve our greater potential. When we experience struggles or distress, our natural tendency to engage in positive growth and self-enhancement becomes disrupted. I believe this disruption can be mended when we are provided the conditions that promote growth. As your counselor, I will work to provide these conditions, which include empathy, authenticity, and non-judgment, in order to create and maintain a safe environment that encourages self-exploration as you move towards this positive growth.
I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master of Science in counseling, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I provide therapy for all ages. I provide play therapy for children, ages 3-9, activity therapy for preadolescents, ages 10-14, and talk therapy for ages 15 and up. In addition, I enjoy working with parents and caregivers to enhance their relationships with their children through Child Parent Relationship Training.
Prior to joining Guiding Compass Counseling, I worked at Friends of the Family as the Male Mentor, where my purpose was to provide a positive male relationship for children in the shelter. During my time at Friends of the Family, I developed a passion for the domestic violence movement and working with survivors of trauma, and I continue to use my resources to be an advocate. My work at Friends of the Family also validated my belief in the power of a safe, genuine, and caring relationship as I witnessed the clients I worked with heal and grow.
For self-care, I enjoy playing guitar, writing, spending time with my partner, and playing with our Black Lab, Bandit, and our cat, Limonada.
During my journey in life, I have found that I am better able to overcome struggles and heal when I seek support from others. I am excited to be a part of your journey.
